Oksana Zaboezjko


Oksana Zabuzhko(Lutsk, 1960), is the most prominent contemporary author from Ukrain. Besides an academic career in Ukrain (Ukrainian Academy of Sciences) and the United States (Penn State University, Harvard, University of Pittsburgh) she worked as a journalist as well. Her first work Field Work in Ukrainian Sex (1996) is regarded as the most intersting book since the independence of Ukrain in 1991. A Dutch translation is being prepared at publishing house Uitgeverij Wereldbibliotheek.

On Tuesday March 18 at 8 p.m. Het beschrijf invites literary translator Helen Saelman to introduce us to writer Oksana Zabuzhko, one of the most remarkable intellectuals in present-day Ukraine and author of the internationally acclaimed novel Field Work in Ukrainian Sex. At the same occasion, the editors of a special issue on contemporary Ukrainian literature talk about their findings and read excerpts from the anthology.
