Renato Baretic


Renato Baretic (Zagreb, 1963) lives in the Croatian coastal city of Split. He is a poet, novelist, journalist and since 2001 has also worked as a reporter for the newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija. His literary work thus far consists of several volumes of poetry, a book of collected newspaper articles and two novels: Osmi povjerenik (the recipient of various awards) and Pricaj mi o njoj. His poems have been translated and published in English, Polish and Ukrainian. During his stay in Flanders, he worked on a novel about a Bosnian refugee family in 1993 and made notes for his next satirical novel (‘The ninth commissioner') about Croatian EU lobbyists in Brussels. His Belgian diary was also published weekly in Slobodna Dalmacija.
