Natasza Goerke


Natasza Goerke (1962, Poznan) is a Polish poet and author of short stories. She studied Polish at the University of Poznan, followed by Oriental Languages at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She emigrated in 1980 and now lives in Hamburg. Her first two books, Fractale (1994) and Ksiega Pasztetow (1997, Book of Pates), are collections of short surrealistic-grotesque and tragicomic stories. In 1999, she published Pozegnania Plazmy, which appeared in English as Farewells to Plasma. Three of her books have also appeared in German. ‘Surrealistic', ‘grotesque', ‘ironic' and ‘extravagant' are some of the adjectives often used to describe her stories.
