Sylvie Marie


Sylvie Marie (1984) is a Flemish poet and prose writer. She also teaches creative writing at several academies. From 2009 to 2011 Marie was Humo's poet in residence. She works as an editor for Deus Ex Machina, and is a member of the Dichters van Vrijdag and The Poetry Brothel.

Sylvie Marie debuted in 2009 with a collection of poems entitled Zonder (Uitgeverij Vrijdag). Her second anthology, Toen je me ten huwelijk vroeg (Uitgeverij Vrijdag, 2011), was nominated for the Herman de Coninck Prize. Marie's poetry deals with universal themes that her readers can relate to: love and relationships, ambition and personal growth, happiness and the woes of everyday life. Her most recent anthology of poetry, Altijd een raam, was published in 2014 (Uitgeverij Vrijdag). She also published a novel, Speler X (Uitgeverij Vrijdag), in 2013.

Marie is working on several projects at Het Lijsternest. She is currently writing her second novel and her first collection of short stories, while experimenting with innovative poetry and performance poetry.
