Pittsburgh, USA

Pittsburgh, the largest city in the state of Pennsylvania, is located in the lowlands between the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Lakes, at the junction of two rivers. Thanks to the large number of cultural offerings, Pittsburgh is also known as ‘the Paris of the Appalachians'.

The home for the writer-in-residence is in Sampsonia Way, a street where several other houses are also open to foreign writers, in the framework of City of Asylum/Pittsburgh. The facade of each residence is painted with calligraphy, such that Sampsonia Way serves as an open-air library composed of houses of books.

This biennial exchange is an initiative of City of Asylum/Pittsburgh and Passa Porta.
